The short answer
Labs report the same markers in different units. Pick a marker, enter your result and its unit, and see it in every other unit. For ferritin, µg/L and ng/mL are the same number.
The conversions
| Marker | From | To | Multiply by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ferritin | µg/L | ng/mL | 1 |
| Haemoglobin | g/L | g/dL | 0.1 |
| Haemoglobin | g/dL | mmol/L | 0.6206 |
| Serum iron | µmol/L | µg/dL | 5.585 |
| Vitamin D | ng/mL | nmol/L | 2.496 |
| Vitamin B12 | pg/mL | pmol/L | 0.7378 |
| Folate | ng/mL | nmol/L | 2.266 |
| Transferrin | g/L | mg/dL | 100 |
A converted number is only comparable with a range in the same unit. Read your result against your own lab's range, and see ferritin levels for what the guide aims for.
Questions
Is ferritin in ng/mL the same as µg/L?
Yes. 1 ng/mL equals 1 µg/L, so the number stays the same.
Why do my two labs use different units?
Countries and labs follow different conventions. US labs often use g/dL and µg/dL, European labs g/L and µmol/L.
